Benlettery is predominantly composed of schist, characteristic of the rugged terrain of the Twelve Bens range. The schist exhibits a variety of beautiful colours, often shimmering in the sunlight, making for a photographer's paradise.
From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Twelve Bens, Kylemore Abbey nestled below, and the shimmering waters of Killary Harbour in the distance.
The name Binn Leitri translates to 'peak of the light' in Irish, which could very well refer to the views that 'light up' your senses at the summit.
This mountain is part of the Twelve Bens range, deeply significant in Irish folklore and history, known for its stunning landscapes that have inspired many artists and poets.
A well-defined path that loops around the base, ascending gradually before tackling the steeper sections. This route offers stunning views throughout the hike.
Parking is available at the end of the L-5122 road, with ample space for several vehicles. Please avoid blocking farmers' gates!
Public transport options are limited, but local buses from Galway run to Clifden, which is about 15 km away. Taxi services can be arranged from there.
Facilities in Clifden include several cafes, shops, and public toilets, perfect for a post-hike coffee or a quick snack.
